Duffy supports P3 task force
From The Bond Buyer:
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy expressed strong support for creating a public-private partnership (P3) task force within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Speaking at a March DOT advisory group meeting, Duffy called it "job number one," stating he "loves the idea" of an office to attract more private capital to address America's infrastructure backlog.
The proposed P3 office would coordinate projects, assist with federal loans, permitting, and procurement, while boosting investor confidence, particularly from U.S. pensions. The advisory board also recommended asset recycling incentives, bond law changes, and value-for-money analyses to encourage P3s over traditional municipal bond financing. A Hudson River bridge-tunnel P3 was highlighted as a potential project.
Public-private partnerships allow the government to access private capital and expertise, allowing major infrastructure projects to take place without major upfront taxpayer fees.
